How To Make This Berry Smoothie

If you make smoothies and frozen co*cktails on a frequent basis, investing in power blender from Vita-mix or Ninja will potentially save you from a burnt out blender motor or two.

Both have high wattage power engines with the torque needed to mix frozen fruits, hard vegetables, and ice into a smooth velvety mixture, without burning out the motors within a few months. I've listed a few models in the Equipment section.

This fresh blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, banana smoothie recipe calls for fresh berries but you can use the frozen Wyman's Triple Berry Blend, or a grocery store generic frozen berry blend.

Wash and Prepare the Fruit

  1. Start by washing your berries and removing any stems. Put them in a colander so you can shake excess water off. Don't soak the berries in a bowl of water though, as they will absorb water.
  1. Peel the banana, slice into chunks, and add to the blender. Add the blueberries to the blender, then the blackberries.

Keep The Strawberries On Top

  1. Add the strawberries on top of the blueberries and blackberries. The blueberries are the smallest so they will get down into the blades and crannies.

During the blending, they will help pull down the blackberries and larger strawberries into the vortex for a uniform blend.

Add the Greek Yogurt or Milk

  1. Add Greek yogurt, or milk if you prefer a thinner smoothie. Or, any flavor of yogurt! I've made this with The Greek Gods Strawberry Yogurt or their Honey Vanilla flavored yogurt, and both are delicious in this berry bliss smoothie!

PRO TIP: If you are vegan, you can use plant based yogurts or plant based milks also! Any way you make this berry bliss tropical smoothie recipe, you're sure to love it though.

  1. After adding the Greek yogurt (or milk), blend in the Vitamix, Ninja, or other high power blender until smooth. Pour into two glasses and garnish with a strawberry, sprig of mint, or a sprinkle of granola! Serve immediately.

Substitutions

Smoothies are SO forgiving. The theme on this Strawberry Blueberry Banana Smoothie is the berry blend, but you can swap the banana for pineapple or mango easily.

If fresh berries are out of season, use the frozen Wyman's Triple Berry blend to make this berry bliss tropical smoothie recipe. Instead of blackberries, it has raspberries.

Variations

This berry smoothie is super easy to make! You can use it as a base recipe for a multitude of variations! See some delicious suggestions below:

  • Keto Berry Smoothie - Omit the banana. Use frozen berries and half & half or heavy cream to thin the blended frozen fruit. Add some monkfruit to sweeten to taste.
  • Berry Protein Smoothie - Add two tablespoons of Sunflower, Almond, or Peanut butter after the blueberries and raspberries and blend after adding the strawberries and yogurt.
  • Blueberry Bliss Smoothie - Omit the blackberries and use 2 cup of blueberries instead of 1 cup, and blend with the strawberries, yogurt, and add 1 tablespoon of honey, or to taste.
  • Mango Pineapple Smoothie - See our recipe for our scrumptious mango and pineapple smoothie.

Equipment

Equipment can have a big impact on how a recipe turns out. Below are some of my favorite pieces of equipment that I use when making this blackberry strawberry banana smoothie recipe.

Storage

  • Smoothies are best when first made. However, you can store leftovers for later with a little trick! Fill an ice cube tray with the leftover berry smoothie mixture and freeze hard.
  • Empty the ice cube tray of frozen smoothie cubes and store in a freezer safe bag.
  • Remove the frozen smoothie cubes and re-blend when ready to have a fresh smoothie!

Tips for Success

  • Cut the banana into ½" slices. Load the rest of the fruit in order of smallest size to largest size so the blender vortex pulls everything down.
  • Don't forget to place the cover back on the blender before starting the blender!
  • You can take this blackberry strawberry banana smoothie recipe and swap out the fruits for blueberries instead of blackberries, or even cherries!

  • Peel the banana, slice into chunks, and add to the blender. Add the blueberries to the blender, then the blackberries.

1 medium banana, 1 cup blueberries, 1 cup blackberries

  • Add the strawberries on top of the blueberries and blackberries. The blueberries are the smallest so they will get down into the blades and air crannies. During the blending, they will pull down the blackberries and larger strawberries into the vortex for a uniform blend.
